Maureen FitzSimons' early achievements in performing arts (now called Maureen O'Hara), would be considered, according to American standards, in the child prodigy category. For a young Irish girl who was surrounded by gifted parents and extended family, these characteristics were a naturally. Maureen joined this wonderful refuge located in Ranelagh, Ireland on August 17th of 1920. Marguerita LIlburn FitzSimons is her mom. She was a skilled contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the second of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen enjoyed playing sports as a kid and was a pro in athletics. Her natural ability to perform was the perfect match for her passion for sports. The fact that she was awarded nearly all the Feis prizes for her own country's theater and drama was a testament to this. When she turned 14, she was accepted by the Abbey Theater accepted her and allowed her to live out her dream in classical theater and opera singing.
